Leading the charge, Rotary President Will Farrell rose in the early morning hours to collect the fresh harvest, ensuring that the best produce made its way into the hands of local seniors. Upon arrival at the library, he was met by dedicated Rotary members Anita, Dolores, Chris, Paul, and Amy, who worked together to set up table after table brimming with colorful, nutritious vegetables.
This year’s selection featured an array of organic onions, carrots, corn, beets, potatoes, crispy kale, and peppers, creating a festive and inviting harvest display. Seniors eagerly lined up, grateful for the opportunity to take home fresh ingredients that would help them maintain a healthy and balanced diet at no cost. The atmosphere was filled with warmth, laughter, and the shared joy of giving back to the community.
Beyond just providing produce, the event fostered a sense of community and connection. Many seniors took the time to chat with Rotary members, sharing stories and expressing their appreciation for the continued support. The event also highlighted the importance of local agriculture and sustainable eating habits, reinforcing the Rotary Club’s commitment to our seniors.
As the Southern Ulster Rotary Club continues to grow and serve, events like the Senior Vegetable Give-Away serve as a powerful reminder of the impact that thoughtful community service can have. With another successful summer giveaway in the books, the Rotary Club remains steadfast in its mission to support and uplift the people of Plattekill, one fresh vegetable at a time.
